(GREAT FALLS) An old historic building in downtown Great Falls dates back to the 1880s.

It was once a furniture store, then turned into a theater but the last time this theater was used was in 2014.

Now a husband and wife are looking to put their heart and soul, and a little bit of their German heritage, into a business that they believe will do the building justice.

The couple plans to debut their new pub, KellerGeist Pub Theater, which is located on 111 Central Avenue, the same night of the Christmas Stroll. Adding a bit of a twist, they will re-create a German Christmas market outside of the pub.

Owners Jolene and Matthias Schalper bought the building last fall and have spent months transforming it into an old-fashion, cozy, yet sophisticated pub.

Last week their liquor license was approved, so they are excited to start serving German beers, cocktails and eventually have a German food menu.

The pub will start small, with the first phase of the building holding only a capacity of 15 people.

Matthias Schalper tells MTN that he and his wife are very excited for people to catch a glimpse of what KellerGeist Pub Theater will be.

“The community is really enthusiastic about it, they are looking forward. We are explaining the concept of this place to people and what I hear, ‘well this is exactly what Great Falls needs. We’ve seen concepts like that in Boise and the bigger cities, we’re really looking forward to having it here,” Schalper said.

Their tentative hours will be Wednesday-Saturday from 4 p.m.- 10 p.m.
