OUR STORY

The Sun River Watershed Group was formed in 1994 as a task force to address water quality problems on Muddy Creek. Over the past 25 years, SRWG has grown into a 501(c)3 and has addressed issues including water quality, irrigation efficiency, stream bank stability, weed infestations, and more. SRWG’s projects have always been and remain voluntary, non-regulatory efforts that aim to benefit the people and resources of our watershed.

In 2019, SRWG celebrated 25 years of protecting and restoring the health of the Sun River Watershed. Through the years, SRWG has completed many projects, partnered with many other organizations, and helped improve many resources.

OUR APPROACH

SRWG’s mission is to protect and restore the resources of the Sun River watershed and its communities. The following Strategic Values guide the actions of SRWG in support of this mission:

  • Improve water quality through reduction of sediment, nutrients, and temperature;

  • Manage for adequate stream flows in all seasons that support multiple uses including agriculture, recreation, fish, and wildlife;

  • Restore hydrologic processes such as floodplain connectivity and river migration;

  • Enrich natural resources such as soils, fish, and wildlife;

  • Control noxious weeds;

  • Provide community education about watershed resources and stewardship; and

  • Monitor and implement follow-up actions to ensure project success.
