Greg's Obituary
Greg Ulmer, 64, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Greg was diagnosed with cancer in November of 2021.
Greg was born on November 18, 1958, to Gary and Beverly Ulmer in Great Falls. He attended schools in Great Falls graduating from C.M. Russell High School in 1977. He continued to the College of Great Falls and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
Greg always loved working on cars and spent many hours as a kid at his grandpa’s shop – Ulmer’s Auto. Greg officially started working at the shop at the age 14, the third generation. Greg was an ASE Master Certified Mechanic and a diagnostic mechanic. Greg could work on and fix just about any kind of vehicle. More importantly, customer service was very important to Greg. He wanted to make sure his customers trusted him. Greg worked at Ulmer’s Auto & Truck Service with his dad for 50 years.
Greg was involved in various organizations over the years in Great Falls including the Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Great Falls, and was instrumental in developing Leadership High School. He was a member of the Montana State Apprenticeship Board and a precinct person for the Cascade County Democratic party.
Greg was most proud of his family, his wife, Cheryl; daughter, Jamie; and stepchildren, Josh and Letisha. Greg and Cheryl knew each other through their work with the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce but did not start dating until Cheryl brought her car to the shop to get fixed and only because Cheryl had the courage to ask him out. Eighteen years later, Cheryl and Greg have a beautiful family with six grandchildren, Alex, Braxton, Bella, Brodie, Brinlee, and Blaire who Greg loved to take to the “Little Store” and fill up on sugar!
Greg was predeceased by his grandparents, Clarence Clinton Ulmer and Drusilla Elizabeth Nicholson Ulmer, and Thomas Mathew Calvert and Margaret Johanne Renning Calvert.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; daughter, Jamie and grandson Alex of Denver CO; stepson, Joshua, wife Sasha and grandkids, Braxton, Brinlee and Blaire Tonkovich of Billings; stepdaughter, Letisha and husband Jeff and grandkids Bella and Brodie Shull of Great Falls; mom and dad, Gary and Bev Ulmer; brother, Gene (Jan) Ulmer of Nampa, ID; sister, Lynn Ulmer Oatman of Great Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mansfield Center in Great Falls. A reception will follow at the Black Eagle Community Center in Black Eagle.
