Donald "Don" Phillip Sigman

July 27, 1941 - June 25, 2022

Donald “Don” Phillip Sigman, 80, was reunited with the love of his life on June 25, 2022. His beloved wife, Cara (Ross) Sigman passed away in 2019. Don often talked of how much he missed her and how much he looked forward to seeing her again upon his ascension to Heaven.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel.

Don was born on July 27, 1941, to Lettie and Jesse Sigman in Indianapolis, IN. He spent much of his youth in Arizona, graduating from Phoenix Union High School. Don joined the Air Force soon after graduation and started a lifelong love of aviation. Unfortunately, he quickly outgrew the normal height requirement for officer aviators, ending his dream of flying for the Air Force.

It was soon thereafter that Don married Carmen and was blessed in short order with five children, Maren, Donnie, Maggie, Amy, and Bernadette. Unfortunately, tragedy struck the family early as his son, Donnie, passed away at the age of three due to a genetic disorder. It was a trauma that placed a terrible burden on a young family.

In 1979, Don met Cara Ross, and they married in 1982. They got along famously. Don often remarked that the two never shared a single cross word.  He welcomed her young son, Randall into his life with open arms. At one point, Don and Cara’s three-bedroom, one bathroom house was home to five growing teenagers!

Don had many interests and an easy adaptability that led to varied careers. In addition to serving in the Air Force, he hung telephone poles, worked as a cardiopulmonary technologist, and retired as co-owner of Montana Perfusionist.

Don enjoyed many activities. He loved using flight simulators, building RC planes, and taking flight lessons. Baseball was one of Don's favorite pastimes. He and Cara attended many spring training baseball camps together, as well as professional and minor league games. They also enjoyed attending basketball games at the college in the wintertime.

Don was a good and decent man. You could feel a quiet competence in his presence. He combined an understated, humble manner with an easy smile and ready bubbling laugh. Don’s company was enjoyable, intelligent, and thoughtful, never rushed. His counsel was wise and measured. There are not enough words to describe how much he will be missed.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lettie and Jesse Sigman; sisters, Joyce and Pat; brothers-in-law, Hal Martin and Steve Moltzan; son, Donnie; and daughter, Bernadette Sigman.

Don is survived by children, Maren Sigman of Bismarck, Maggie (Grant) Fagan of Billings, Amy Cleveland of Bismarck, and Randall (Breanne) Holliday of Pittsburg; and eight grandchildren.
