Alice Irene Selensky

November 11, 1933 - April 7, 2022

Alice Irene Selensky was born November 11, 1933, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, North Dakota. She was the first of 7 children born to Fred and Rose (Goetz) Voeller.

Alice went to school at Silva. When Alice started school, she only spoke German, so they held her back a year until she learned how to speak English. Alice was the only graduating senior in the class of 1952. After high school, she went on to attend Minot State Teachers College for a summer where she took a business course. She began working at the farm service agency in Rugby for a year as an office employee. In 1953, she went to work at the Merchants Bank as a teller. Alice loved to dance to polka music and that same year she met Jacob Selensky at a dance where he and his brothers were performing. They were married on May 24, 1954.

After Alice and Jake were married, they lived in Rugby, ND. Alice continued working as a teller at the Merchants Bank until1955 when her first child was born. They went on to have 7 more children. In 1957, Alice and Jake moved to a farm near Wolford, ND. In 1960 they moved to Great Falls. Jake worked with several meat markets until joining General Mills in 1962 while Alice began working for First Bank of Great Falls in 1961. She worked in various positions until 1988 when she took an early retirement.

Jake and Alice always loved farming, so in 1968 they bought 5 acres of land near Cascade, Montana. There they raised a large garden and livestock for their own use. Finally, in 1989, Alice, Jake, and their son, Randall moved from Great Falls and the house they had lived in for 25 years, to a farm near Vaughn, MT. In 2010 after Jake’s passing, Alice and Randy moved back to Great Falls.

Alice spent a total of 35 years in banking helping many people while also farming and tirelessly raising 8 children. She was a very hard-working woman who enjoyed the simple things in life. A quiet person with a quick wit, Alice loved to laugh and be teased. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, gardening, farming, and canning. Alice had a beautiful smile and magnetic personality. For her, mealtimes and holidays were special as they were opportunities to visit with the family she loved and share good food.

A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Alice was a strong Catholic devoted to her faith, Mary, and praying the rosary. She lived her faith by example. Another of her loves in life were her children and grandchildren. She also loved all animals, but especially her Chihuahua.

Alice is survived by her children, Ron (Margo), Conny Cooke, Cathy (Terry) Settles, Carol (Norm) Sollid, Colleen Schneckenburger, Rick (Amy), Barb (Tony) Kranitz, and Randy; sisters, Adeline Axtman, Beatrice Boucher, and Bernie (Steve) Dull; brothers, Raymond (Fern) and Jim (Carol); 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Edward (Elaine) Selensky; sisters-in-law, Rose and Bernice Selensky; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; grandson, Kyle Cooke; granddaughter, Amy Sollid; and her sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Lawrence Volk.
