Russell "Russ"'s Obituary

U.S. Veteran

Russell John “Russ” Luoma passed away peacefully at his home on September 19, 2022.

Born to John and Theresa (Ament) Luoma on July 25, 1950, Russ spent his childhood in Great Falls, graduating from Great Falls High School in 1968. He went on to Montana State University in Bozeman where he majored in Agricultural Business, returning to Great Falls during the summer to work at the Anaconda Mining Company. After graduating in 1972, Russ began working in the Ag business. He worked for Montana Merchandising and eventually found a place at Columbia Grain where he spent the majority of his career until his retirement in 2016.

Russ very much enjoyed his retirement and spent his Tuesday and Friday nights bowling at the Elks Club and made many friends there over the course of 20 years. Thanks to a generous gift of a SmartTV from his coworkers upon his retirement and the technological savvy of his sons Tim and Jeremy, Russ also learned to appreciate relaxing and how to stream his favorite shows on Netflix. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and extended family across the state including many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A lifelong Bobcats fan, Russ loved watching the Cats, especially seeing them play in Bozeman. He always looked forward to the summertime when he got to enjoy visits from his grandkids, and he loved putting together puzzles with them and just being a grandpa. Russ could also be found in quiet contemplation admiring the birds in his yard or sitting outside in his chair “just watching the world go by.”

Russ leaves behind his two sons, Jeremy (Julie) of Erie, CO and Tim (Ryan) of Great Falls; nephew, John Kevin (Shelly) Luoma of Littleton, CO; niece, Jennifer Luoma of Woburn, MA; and sister-in-law Patricia Luoma also of CO. He was also blessed with four grandchildren, Stephanie, Allison, Ava, and Chase, all of Erie, CO. He will also be missed by many dear friends whose company he always enjoyed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Dennis.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be scheduled for the Spring.
