Kelly's Obituary

Kelly Hugh Davey was born on August 12, 1956, to JoElyn and William Davey in Great Falls. Kelly passed away from pneumonia and complications from diabetes.

He attended schools in Great Falls and earned his GED, which he was very proud of. Kelly was an artist specializing in bone marrow carvings, depicting nature and wildlife. He made so many beautiful pieces. He was an accomplished artist.

To his nieces and nephews, he was "Unck the Hunk." Who could ever forget Kelly's beautiful blonde curly hair.

Kelly is survived by his mother, JoElyn Ball; girlfriend, Debra Poitra; grandchildren, Leland and Emil, Destany, Meliha Poitra. Kelly loved his girlfriend, Debbie. She and the grandchildren were with Kelly until the very end. He is also survived by his sisters, Stephanie Paul, Darcie Davey, Shannon (Tim Heisler) Ball, Kari (Paul) Lamb, all of Great Falls, and Jill Davey of Idaho; three brothers, Brad (Rhonda Addison) Davey of Great Falls, Don (Sharon) Ball of Nebraska, and Bill Davey of California. He was preceded in death by his father, William Davey; stepfather, Charlie Ball; brother, Kirk Davey; and nephew, Adam Davey.

His best friend, Chester Pierson passed away the day before Kelly. Chester and Kelly were like brothers. Chester must have taken Kelly by the hand and took him on the journey with him. It is both sad and a blessing to see them pass at the same time. We know they are together.

Kelly almost always had an open-door policy to his home. He had some challenges in his life, so he understood his friends and family had challenges as well. Kelly was an amazing person and was empathetic to those who touched his heart.

He loved what he called "Urban Mining." Kelly was a collector, and he did not mind the mess of life as long as he could enjoy the simple things that came with it. If he felt a friend needed something many times, he would just give it to them. Kelly loved to tease his brothers and sisters many times giving them nicknames, which were funny and sometimes torturous at the same time.

When Kelly's Grandma Gilstad was alive she made Kelly's Jelly for him every year. Kelly idolized his grandfather, Joe Gilstad. Kelly took after the Gilstad side of the family and had many of the mannerisms and Norwegian traits that we all loved.

Kelly's grandchildren will be giving him a Viking/Norwegian farewell next spring. To include many of the Norwegian foods. Such as Krum Kake, Scones, and Lefsa which Kelly enjoyed as a child. This will be held next spring when family and friends can celebrate Kelly's life. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as friends. Please join us next year for a celebration of his life.
