Burton "BC" Clyde Luchsinger

May 5, 1938 - May 13, 2022

Burton Clyde “BC” Luchsinger, 84, of Great Falls, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022. Cremation has taken place under the direction of O’Connor Funeral Home and per his request, no services will be held.

BC was the fourth child born to Earl and Ruth Luchsinger on May 5, 1938, in Minot, North Dakota. He had two older brothers and a sister. After he was born, he became a brother to another sister and three more brothers. They were, Paul, Marilyn, Curtis, Milton, Leone, Kenny, and Donnie

He grew up on a farm in Surrey, North Dakota and lived in a two story farmhouse. Working on the family farm, he worked hard and developed a strong work ethic. His older brother Paul had moved to Helena, Montana. So, when Burton ran away from home at the age of 15 and came to Helena, Paul got him enrolled in school. While attending high school, and living on his own, he worked evenings and weekends to support himself. He graduated in 1957. Not long after, he met Terry Schiavon, they married and eventually had 6 children.

He started his career in trucking very early and supported his growing family as a truck driver and eventually as an owner/operator, hauling grain, groceries, and finally road construction. He owned and operated B. C. Luchsinger Trucking during the 60's and 70's. After he and Terry divorced, he moved to Billings and sold trucks. He moved to a handful of different places like Laughlin, Nevada and Denver, Colorado. He settled in Rawlins, Wyoming for a time while he built another trucking company, Asphalt Express, hauling for the road construction industry. He later sold this company and eventually returned to Great Falls. For a while he dabbled a little in the equipment side of the industry.

He was known far and wide for his truck driving skills and a daring-do that resulted in more than a few stories that elicited both laughter and raised eyebrows. He kept in touch with many of his trucking friends. Only a few are still around today, but they were special to him.

He lived the last 17 years in Great Falls. He enjoyed having coffee, or after five o’clock, something stronger, with those he knew. From the time he returned to Great Falls, to live in the little brick house, to his last few days, he enjoyed sitting outside his home in warmer weather, watching the world go by. He relished visiting with his children and his grandkids, and he always had an open door for them to come and go.

In early 2010, he was diagnosed with stage 4 COPD. Not long after, he dealt with a serious bout of illness and began considering his own mortality. His discussion with his daughter Ana about what happens at death calmed his heart and mind. He began an in depth study of the Bible. Through those discussions he came to know and love the God of the Bible, Jehovah, and the reason for Jesus coming to the earth. He really appreciated the hope that the Bible holds out for future life, and he shared what he learned from the Bible with anyone who would listen. His family is eagerly looking forward to seeing him in the resurrection promised in Acts 24:15.

He was closely associated with the Giant Springs Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He had many friends within the congregation. They will all miss his jovial laugh and positive spirit. He had lots of friends that loved him very much.

He told Jay that living in his little house for the last 17 years were the happiest of his life. Burton had married 3 times.

He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his brothers, Paul, Curtis, and Donnie; and a sister, Marilyn who everyone called, “Sis.”

He leaves behind his sons, Dirk (Kathy) and Jay (Anita); and daughters, Lisa (Philip) Willmarth, Tina (Dale) Ellis, Ana (Pete, deceased) Richert, and Keri (Stephen) Herford; brothers, Milton and Kenny; sister, Leone; 16 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He also had a stepdaughter Buffy Welch that he had a special relationship with.

We will miss him calling us “Kid!”
