Janet Adamson Obituary

Janet Shepherd Adamson, 72, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and great friend, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022.  A Visitation will be held on Friday, November 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Rose Room Chapel at Croxford Funeral Home.  Her Funeral Service will be on Saturday, November 12th at 12:00 Noon at the Fairfield Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a Viewing one hour prior at 11:00 AM, with Burial to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery.

Born October 20, 1950 in Crandon, WI to Gideon and Cecelia (Kaduback) Shepherd, Janet was one of three children.  She was raised in Armstrong Creek, WI before the family moved to Montana where she graduated from Choteau High School.  Janet joined the U. S. Army on October 24, 1969, serving for two years at Fort Bragg, NC as an Intelligence Analyst. During her service she was awarded the National Defense Service Medal before being honorably discharged December 3, 1971.  She met Monte Adamson when she was riding with friends and their car broke down, and he gallantly stopped to rescue them.  They were married on October 23, 1971, in Choteau, remaining happily together for 47 years, until his passing.

Family was Janet’s priority, she enjoyed being a wife and mother.  She loved her family, church, community and enjoyed traveling.  She had a passion for reading and education. As the children got older, she took genealogy courses at BYU in Rexburg, ID.  She worked as a caretaker for the developmentally disabled people at Choteau Activities and helped out at the Full Circle Thrift Store.  She helped host the Special Olympics for eight years, was the D.A.R.E. officer for the Fairfield school system, was the Red Ribbon Week organizer, was a member of the LDS Church Relief Society, was a den leader for the Boy Schouts of America, and helped as an EMT first responder.

A loving and caring woman, Janet will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her son, Marcus (Ashlyn) Adamson of Great Falls; daughter, Christine (Neil) Sheldon of Great Falls and Athena (Micheal) Degele of Great Falls; sister, Elaine (Mitch) Peters, who are in the Philippines on a mission; brother, Alvin Shepherd of Avon, MT; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her loving husband, Monte; mother-in-law and father-in-law; all her aunts and uncles; one cousin and one nephew.
